Dog Management Policy
Round 1 Engagement Open
The City of Hobart is currently seeking community feedback to prepare a new Dog Management Policy.
We know our Hobart community cares deeply about their dogs, as well as our shared parks and natural areas. We invite you to share with us what you value about responsible dog ownership, and how you would like the policy to be implemented.
What is the Dog Management Policy?
The Dog Management Policy is an important document, which:
- outlines what it means to be a responsible dog owner,
- shows where and when dogs can and cannot be exercised, and
- determines how the City should implement the policy and ensure responsible dog ownership.
How can I have my say?
Visit the project Your Say page at this link: www.yoursay.hobartcity.com.au/dog-management
Once there, there are two ways you can have your say in this first round of engagement:
Two rounds of engagement
Community engagement for the Dog Management Policy will be done in two main rounds.
The first round is open from 8-28 April. During this initial engagement, we are seeking feedback on the current Dog Management Policy (2019-2023). All feedback from this stage will inform proposed changes to the new Policy.
The draft Policy will then go to the Hobart City Council for review prior to being released to the community for further feedback.
The second round is expected to be open in July – August (dates may change). During this round, the City is seeking specific feedback on the new draft Dog Management Policy, including where dogs can and cannot be exercised on-lead and off-lead. Considering all feedback, the required changes will be made to the Policy, and it will go to Council for final approval.
Please note, the City has recently sought community feedback on several projects that discuss dog management and Hobart’s parks and natural spaces. These are namely the South Hobart Oval and Park Master Plan, and feedback on Hobart’s Open Spaces. Please be assured that all feedback that was given in these engagements will be considered in updating the Dog Management Policy. Of course, you are very welcome to provide your feedback again if you would like to.
